Jay Wright Not Interested in Sixers Job

Jay Wright, the coach of Villanova basketball, has been the subject of swirling rumors that he could perhaps slide across Philadelphia to fill the 76ers head coaching vacancy after they fired Brett Brown. Today, Wright tweeted a statement that he is not a candidate for that job:




Wright has a great perch at Villanova. He's entering his 20th season there. They've won two national championships. If he ever does leave for the NBA, the opportunity would have to be a lot better than what the Sixers have going now -- a core that just got knocked out of the first round of the playoffs, with little cap flexibility to add a true difference-maker in the immediate term.

While we've seen coaches say they're not candidates for jobs before and still take them later anyways -- remember Nick Saban and Alabama? -- this feels like about as ironclad a statement as Wright could make on the matter.
