Chris Webber On Former Philadelphia Teammate: 'Best Athlete That I've Ever Seen'

Newly-inducted Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Webber has shared the court with some impressive hoopers: Chris Mullin, Juwan Howard, Mike Bibby, Rasheed Wallace and Rip Hamilton among them. But one particular running mate stands out as the "best athlete" Webber's ever laid eyes on: Allen Iverson.

Webber and A.I. shared the court for 104 games over parts of three seasons after Webber was traded from Sacramento to Philadelphia.

"A.I. is the best athlete that I’ve ever seen in my life. Period," Webber told The Athletic's Shams Charania. "He’s the best player I’ve ever played with. Period."

Webber's cranky knee limited his effectiveness during his time with Iverson, leaving him to ponder what could've been. "I wish I could have got there before — I wish I could have got there with a good knee," said Webber via Charania. "Out of all the players that played with him, I averaged the most points. It made me feel good and it pissed me off because I think I could’ve given him seven or eight more points. It was an honor to play with him."

Despite the duo's appearance on paper, the C-Web - A.I. pairing was essentially an on-court bust. They appeared together in just one playoff series -- which they lost -- before Iverson was dealt to Denver.

"I think about the fans of Philly, and they get a terrible rap, but they showed me love when I shouldn’t have. They showed me at a time where they didn’t have to," said Webber, who averaged 18 points and nine boards throughout his 76ers tenure.

He and Iverson are now teammates once again, this time in the Hall of Fame. Iverson entered the Hall in 2016 and Webber was enshrined over the weekend.
