UFC Has Lined Up An Opponent For Jon Jones' Return
Dana White just announced the rare, "Holy Sh*t fight." Though Jon Jones has yet to accept the deal, his return to the octagon will likely come against former two-time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. 38-year-old Miocic has already agreed to the fight, now it's on Jones to seal the deal.
In an appearance on The Nelk Boys' Full Send podcast, UFC president Dana White teased the possible fight night bIockbuster: “Me and Jones have had that type of relationship his whole career. When he’s ready to fight we are ready to go. He’s talking about fighting at heavyweight,” White said. “But, in the heavyweight division right now we are going back to Houston, Derrick Lewis is taking on Ciryl Gane and whoever wins that fight will fight Francis Ngannou. Whoever wins that fight, if Jon Jones wants to come back he can fight one of them. Or, he can fight Stipe Miocic. Stipe has accepted that fight and will take that fight.”
One thing that won't stand in the way of a Jones - Miocic tilt is a Covid vaccine. White's already said that UFC fighters will not be required to show proof vaccination. "Never gonna happen", according to White.
More pressing, for now at least, is Jones' shot to return to the octagon. Despite a continued desire to throw hands, he last fought in February 2020 because of money disputes with the UFC. Miocic, who holds the UFC's heavyweight record for the longest streak of titles defenses, last fought in March.
Now, Miocic's waiting, and so is Jones' bank account. We'll see who flinches first.
