UFC Fighter Blames Ref For Extra Punches After Vicious KO

Derrick Lewis knocked out Curtis Blaydes in last night's UFC Vegas 19 main event, and it was terrifying. The fight was a success, but many thought Derrick Lewis threw a couple extra punches.

His explanation for the extra blows actually makes sense:

"Because his corner, his coaches was talking, talking, 'That was bull****.' I was saying, 'That's not my fault, that's Herb Dean's fault (the referee).'

"I'm going to keep fighting until the referee pulls you off. That's with anyone. Same thing could happen to me. I'm going to just keep fighting until the referee says stop."

Being realistic, UFC fighters are on "100" and probably can't help themselves. How could we expect any fighter seeing red to suddenly turn that switch off? My only issue with his statement was that he should've said he didn't realize Blaydes was knocked out until the ref got involved. When he says 'don't blame me, blame him'--he comes across like he doesn't care.

And not that this is an organization that prides itself on PR antics and "caring," but he practically killed Curtis Blaydes. That's where the insinuations were really coming from. Blaydes' corner probably couldn't help but be angry that their fighter was taking two full overhand rights for no good reason. It's tough to watch.

Either way, we're glad to see Blaydes made it out okay, and we look forward to seeing him jump back in the octagon soon.
