Yankees And DJ LeMahieu 'Finalizing' A Deal For Him To Stay In New York

Infielder DJ LeMahieu and the New York Yankees are close to wrapping up a deal that would keep him in the Bronx, reports Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

The free agent is coming off a season in which he hit .364 with 10 homers and 27 runs batted in for the Bronx Bombers.

The Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers also had their eyes on the 32-year-old infielder, but it was thought all along that he would wind up staying in New York with the Yankees.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network spoke Thursday on WFAN in New York about LeMahieu and his return to the Big Apple.

"I've heard four years and close to $20 million offering at this point," Heyman said.

"We understand he's looking for a five-year deal, and the word was he was looking for well over $20 million, probably close to $25 million a year.

"There seems to be compromising room in there. Somewhere around that Josh Donaldson deal four years for $92 million. I think that should get it done."

LeMahieu won a batting title with the Colorado Rockies back in 2016, when he hit .364. After winning the AL batting title last season, he becomes the first player in the modern era to win a batting title in both leagues.
