X-Rays Show Broken Hand for Dodgers' Corey Seager, Lux and Taylor to Fill In
Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, 2020 World Series MVP and NLCS MVP, will be out indefinitely after getting hit with a 90 MPH pitch during Saturday’s game against the Miami Marlins.
According to information released Sunday, X-rays of the injury showed that Seager fractured his right hand after getting hit by a Sheldon Neuse pitch in the fifth inning.
The Los Angeles shortstop totaled four home runs, 22 RBIs, and hit an average of .265 in 37 games played for the Dodgers this season.
Manager Dave Roberts gave his thoughts on the injury and outlook for the Dodgers without Seager: “Fortunately, I think we dodged a bullet right there … no surgery required. With a broken hand, the timeline is pretty vague. So that’s kinda where it’s at.”
Roberts also added that backups Chris Taylor and Gavin Lux will be playing the shortstop position in the interim.
Per the Los Angeles Daily News, Seager is the 13th player added to the Dodgers’ Injured List, a shaky start for the team after their championship run in 2020.
On Saturday, the LA team reportedly signed designated hitter Albert Pujols, the Anaheim favorite who was recently released by the Angels after 10 seasons.
The Dodgers are currently 3rd in the NL standings and 5-4 in their last nine games.
