Washington Dumps 3B Starlin Castro After Domestic Violence Allegations

The Washington Nationals did not take long to release third baseman Starlin Castro, after Castro completed a 30-game suspension over an alleged domestic violence incident.

The Nats had previously stated the move with Castro was coming, so nothing is a surprise here.

Castro played the last two years in D.C., where he hit .280 with five homers and 32 RBI playing in 103 games for the franchise.

Prior to coming to Washington, Castro played six years with the Cubs and two each with the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins.

In his 12-year career, he sports a .280 batting average, with 138 homers and 678 RBI with 89 steals.

"We take all allegations of abuse and harassment very seriously," the Nationals said in a statement on July 30th.

"We fully support the Commissioner's decision and will be releasing Starlin Castro upon the completion of his suspension. Per the terms of the policy, we will have no further comment on this matter."

Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke about the suspension on July 30th.

"Mr. Castro violated our (Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse) Policy and that discipline is appropriate."
