Veteran Reliever Liam Hendriks Signing Four-Year Deal With White Sox

The Chicago White Sox bolstered their bullpen in a big way late Monday, as reports are the team has come to a four-year deal with former Oakland Athletic pen arm Liam Hendriks.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports the deal is worth a total of $54 million. It starts as a three-year deal but has a club option for a fourth year.

The first three years of the deal will see Hendriks rake in $39 million, and even if the White Sox decline the fourth-year option, he will still make another $15 million.

Hendriks was dominant the last two years for the A's, putting up a 1.79 ERA with 39 saves and 161 strikeouts over 110.1 innings in the last two seasons on the mound.

The 31-year-old has been around the block in his 10 seasons in the pros, playing five of them with Oakland. He also spent time with Kansas City, Toronto and Minnesota.

Last week, the Houston Astros were said to have heavy interest in Hendriks. The Jays, Phillies, Giants and Dodgers were also said to be interested in the reliever.
