Veteran Pitcher Chris Sale Says He's Feeling Good

It's been a long road back for Boston Red Sox hurler Chris Sale.

The 32-year-old, who hasn't pitched in a Major League game since August of 2019, says he wants to play a part in a playoff run for the Red Sox.

"One hundred percent," Sale said Tuesday. "Unless something crazy happens. I'll be there soon enough."

Fifteen months ago, Sale had Tommy John surgery, and while it's been a long road back to the mound, the veteran pitcher says he feels like he could get back out there tomorrow and throw.

"If it was up to me, I'd be starting tomorrow," he said.

Sale will stick around with the Red Sox through next week. He'll keep throwing bullpen sessions with the major league squad after spending months rehabbing at the spring training complex in Fort Myers, Florida.

In Sale's last season on the mound in 2019, he went 6-11 with a 4.40 ERA and clearly didn't look like the same pitcher who used to dominate in the Majors.

He had seven straight double-digit win seasons while a member of the Chicago White Sox, winning 99 games from 2012 to 2018, and leading the Majors in strikeouts in 2017, striking out 308 batters.
