Tyler Glasnow Blames Elbow Injury On MLB Substance Crackdown
Earlier this week, Major League Baseball cracked down on pitcher-friendly foreign substances like mixing sunscreen with rosin. Now Rays ace Tyler Glasnow is blaming his partially torn UCL on the new regulations.
This is getting ugly, fast.
"I just threw 80 something innings and you just told me I can't use anything. I have to change everything. I truly believe 100 percent that's why I got hurt," Glasnow said. "I'm frustrated MLB doesn't understand. You can't just tell us to use nothing. It's crazy."
"I don't want this to happen to anyone else. My lifelong dream is to win a Cy Young and be an all-star and now it's just s*** on. Now it's over. Now I have to try to rehab to come back in the playoffs. I'm clearly frustrated. You can't just tell us to use nothing. It's crazy."
He absolutely should be livid
Glasnow's entire point is that pitching with and without grip enhancing substances is noticably different. So much so that he's making statements on the stress he felt post substance-less pitching. And not only was it different, but he got hurt immediately, and that should alarm the rest of baseball.
It probably already has. It just needs to be made clear to those of us that spectate these world class athletes.
Outkick's David J. Chao weighed in on Twitter about a daunting possibility for the Rays flamethrower down the road(look away Rays fans).
Pro Football Doc is merely echoing the doom and gloom Glasnow quotes earlier. "It's all over" could have been his way of saying his elbow is in danger of operation, and that's worst case scenario for Tampa. And if Glasnow wants a Cy Young or all-star appearance, Tommy John surgery is a year-long sentence to the sidelines.
Obviously we hope everything works out in Tyler Glasnow's favor, but one thing's for certain: The players are not happy about the recent rule changes. Let another pitcher go down with an arm injury or a pitch to slip and take out a defenseless hitter -- we might have an all out war.
