Trevor Bauer joins Dodgers on $102M record deal
Trevor Bauer has agreed to join the Los Angeles Dodgers, the right-handed pitcher announced in a YouTube video Friday.
Bauer and the Dodgers are in agreement on a three-year, $102 million deal that has opt-outs after Years 1 and 2, MLB News reports. Bauer is set to make $40 million in 2021 and $45 million in 2022.
Bauer earned the National League Cy Young Award after posting a 1.73 ERA and 100-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 73 innings in 2020.
In his final start of the regular season, he threw eight innings of one-run ball and struck out 12 to pitch the Cincinnati Reds into the playoffs.
ESPN reports that Bauer's $40 million salary for the 2021 season is higher than the projected 26-man payroll of the Pittsburgh Pirates ($30 million), Baltimore Orioles ($34.2 million) and Cleveland Indians ($36.5 million).
"This season is about making sure history remembers us as we wish to be remembered," Bauer said in the video. "This season is about adding to our legacy. And I can't wait, Dodger fans."
