Top Pitching Prospect Jack Leiter Reportedly Wants To Play For The Red Sox

Top pitching prospect Jack Leiter is speaking out about where he'd like to land in this year's Major League Baseball Draft, and his preferred destination may surprise you.

Most young prospects want to go first in any draft, but Leiter says that he wouldn't mind going number four - to the Boston Red Sox.

The Vanderbilt ace went 11-4 this season for the Commodores with a 2.13 ERA, 0.845 WHIP and 179 strikeouts in 110 innings.

He's considered the best pitching prospect in baseball, but overall there's no consensus top pick in this year's draft, meaning that Leiter could go No.1 or slide to the Red Sox at four after all.

Before Boston can pick, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers will have the option of taking Leiter.

There is some concern that Leiter won't ink with whichever MLB team drafts him, and that he will return to Vanderbilt for his junior season.

Jack is the son of former Major League pitcher Al Leiter, who pitched 19 seasons in the Majors with four teams.

The Boston Globe's Pete Abraham has reported that Leiter "very much" wants to play for the Red Sox, but there's been no response from the Sox.
