This Week Is A Big One For Boone, Yankees

The Yankees have now lost five in a row, and to make matters worse, those Ls came against the 22-31 Detroit Tigers. Unfortunately for the Yankees, the division-leading Tampa Bay Rays, who have won 12 of their last 13 games, come to town for a four-game series in the Bronx.

It's put up or shut up time for manager Aaron Boone and the rest of this team.

MLB Fox tweeted that this was an upset, but maybe there's a big picture takeaway here? Is it possible that the Yankees just...stink? Aaron Boone says he's not hitting the panic button yet, but of course, what's he supposed to say?

"We are absolutely good enough," Boone said via Zoom. "We need to figure it out."

When did "good enough" become the standard? Of course he means that this roster is good enough to dominate to an American League title, and more importantly, a World Series title. I find that to be blatantly dishonest to the fans who support this team.

Long story short: this lineup is cheeks

For reference, the 6-9 hitters in the Yankees lineup are hitting .187, .238, .197, and .195 respectively. That's pathetic, and what's worse is that the normal starting left fielder, Clint Frazier, is hitting .182.

In what world is this team good enough, Aaron Boone?

Here's what needs to happen:

Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner needs to come out and make a statement that this team -- the coaching, the players, doesn't matter -- is unacceptable. The 2021 Yankees need to be much better, and there's no excuse for this level of performance.
