Report: Ronald Acuña Jr. To Have Season-Ending Surgery On ACL

Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered a complete tear of his right ACL and will undergo season-ending surgery, the team announced.

The Braves placed Acuña Jr. on the 60-day injured list.

Acuña Jr. was carted off the field in tears after suffering the injury during Atlanta's 5-4 win over the Marlins. The outfielder landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a line drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning, ESPN reports.

Acuña Jr. slammed into the outfield wall and crumbled on the warning track, immediately grabbing his right knee while Chisholm sprinted out an inside-the-park homer.

Acuña Jr. spoke on the news of his torn right ACL and the next steps of his process in a video conference

"I love to play. That's what I want to do. I want to be able to play. I'm really sad and disappointed for the team because I know they need me. And I want to be there for them," Acuña Jr. said.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker expressed concern for the outfielder after the game but said he didn't expect word on the extent of the injury until Sunday.

"He's in a lot of pain, I can tell you that. It's a tough break for the team and for him,'' Snitker said after the win.

The news came a little earlier and clearly was not what the team wanted to hear. "It's just another punch in the gut you have to endure," he said.

But Snitker said he expects a full recovery from Acuña Jr. and that the team will continue to play in his absence.

"He'll recover great and continue a Hall of Fame career when he's done," he said. "... been through before, this isn't new to this group of guys ... they're going to continue to do their job."
