Reds Pitching Prospect Hunter Greene Reportedly Hits 105 MPH In Recent Outings

Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Hunter Greene has reached some rarefied air when it comes to how fast he can throw.

The 21-year-old has reportedly been hitting 105 miles per hour when pitching, joining just two other players in Major League history to have hit such a mark - Aroldis Chapman and Jordan Hicks.

That isn't to say that other pitchers haven't hit 105 at some point. Pitch velocity data goes back only to 2007, so it's conceivable that the number has been reached before.

While Greene's incredible throwing speed is something to take note of, reports say that the youngster is also getting his slider over, making him even more dangerous when he takes the mound.

Greene was the second overall pick of the 2017 MLB Draft. Thus far a few years into his young career, he's played rookie ball for the Billings Mustangs and A-ball for the Dayton Dragons back in 2018.

Greene hadn't thrown in two and a half seasons, but some think that he might wind up pitching out of the pen for the Reds at some point this year.

The youngster is going to get plenty of eyes on him in 2021 if he keeps hitting such numbers on the radar gun.

Right now, he's listed as the No. 71 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.
