Rays Manager Kevin Cash Ticked Off At Yankees For Hitting His Batters

The rivalry between the defending AL Champion Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees has taken over as the best in the American League since the fallback of the Boston Red Sox.

The two teams met in the postseason last season, and the Rays won the ALDS 3-2 to advance to the ALCS.

The two teams have jarred back and forth over the last year, and this past weekend when it seemed that Yankees pitchers had deliberately hit his players, Tampa manager Kevin Cash had something to say about it.

Cash claimed that the league “grossly mishandled” what he felt was an effort to throw up and in on Rays hitters.

New York hit three Tampa hitters during the weekend’s three game set at Tropicana Field, which Tampa Bay took 2-1.

The manager has a point. New York starter Jordan Montgomery did hit Austin Meadows on the front shoulder in the first inning on Sunday and then again on the forearm in the fifth inning. New York won that game 8-4.

“Look, it’s unfortunate,” Cash said. “Do I personally think the guy was trying to hit him? I do not. But this continues to roll over.”

Benches cleared last year on September 1st after New York closer Aroldis Chapman threw near the head of Rays hitter Mike Brosseau.

The closer was suspended three games, which was reduced down to two.

The rivalry between the Yankees and Rays will continue on Friday in the Bronx when the two teams take to the field for the first of a three-game set.
