Perfect Pitch: Dodgers' Joe Kelly Dons Mariachi Jacket To White House
Dodger pitcher and Astros assassin Joe Kelly pulled off a legendary playground trade earlier this week, flipping one of his own authentic MLB jerseys for a fan’s mariachi jacket. The two appear to meet on the field during warmups somehow, and then reunite by the Dodgers’ bullpen later in the day for the trade.
Joe must have known this beforehand, because he sported the jacket during today’s trip to the White House to celebrate the Dodgers’ 2020 World Series Championship. To really bring the outfit to peak performance, Kelly also rocked a dirty SoCal ‘stache with accompanying flavor saver, an old-school widow's peak mudflap mullet which Biden tried to sniff, and a half-buttoned shirt that wasn't ever making it through the whole evening. All told, the ensemble really captured the spirit of Los Angeles: a little dirty, a little greasy, but really fun for a night.
Kelly’s mother is also of Mexican descent, so maybe that’s where he gets his fashion sense and fiery temper. Regardless, Los Angeles loves their Dodgers, and their characters ever more so. Thanks to his past antics, Kelly has certainly cemented his place in Dodgers history—there’s even murals of his infamous pouty face painted on liquor stores.
Whether he brought his own trumpet to drown out Jen Psaki’s voice at the White House remains unknown.
