Noah Syndergaard Roasts Mike Francesa On Twitter

It's highly unlikely that Mike Francesa and Noah Syndergaard will be exchanging Christmas cards this holiday season.

After spending seven seasons with the Mets, Syndergaard signed a one-year, $21 million deal with the Angels on Tuesday. Having made just two appearances since 2019 recovering from Tommy John Surgery, Francesa wasn't upset to see him go.

“The Mets are better off without Syndergaard. In case you haven’t noticed, they have been without him for years,” Francesa tweeted on Friday.

Syndergaard, however, didn't waste time taking aim at Francesa.

“Damn, didn’t know you were still alive,” Syndergaard tweeted. “Congrats.”

Maybe, just maybe the Mets do need Syndergaard. Francesa is right, New York's been without him for the past couple of years. But it's not like the Mets have won without him.

In the 2020 60-game shortened season, the Mets finished 26-34, last in the NL East. In 2021, they led the division for much of the season before crumbling in the second half of the season. They would finish 77-85, third in the NL East, missing the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.

The Mets have had a disastrous offseason and it hasn't even been a month. A general manager search finally came to an end on Thursday when they hired Billy Eppler. Per multiple reports, New York's primary targets including the Athletics' Billy Beane and Theo Epstein, did not entertain the Mets' opening.

With so much uncertainty, Syndergaard said on Friday the general manager search was on his mind when he was testing free agency.

“ definitely in the back of my mind a little bit. This is an important year for me,” Syndergaard said. “This is kind of a make-or-break time for me. I didn’t want to gamble on that kind of uncertainty that’s been going on with them.”
