New York Mets Not Likely To Bring Back Michael Conforto

The New York Mets have run into hard times the last few months, and wake up today sitting at 59-59, .500 in the NL East and sitting at 3.5 back of first place in the NL East. The high point of the season for the Mets came back in the first half of the year in June when the team was nine games over .500 and in first in the division. Since then, the team has just not performed at the same level, making the fall from first to third quickly. Right now, the team trails both the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in the standings. One reason for the letdown for the Mets is outfielder Michael Conforto who reportedly won't be back in 2022. Conforto is 28 and was the 10th overall pick of the Mets in the first-round back in the 2014 MLB Draft. He looked like a star early in his career, but this season has slumped, hitting just .217 with eight homers and 29 runs batted in. Last season in 60 games, he looked like a star, hitting .322 with nine homers and 31 runs batted in, the best season average of his career. One potential replacement for Conforto is Kris Bryant from the San Francisco Giants, who inked a one-year deal this season worth $19.5 million, and will be available to any team this offseason, including the Mets. Two other players mentioned for a potential spot on the Mets include 32-year-old vet Eduardo Escobar and 11-year Seattle Mariners infielder Kyle Seager.
