MLB Launching A Draft Combine For Top 100 Prospects

Major League Baseball will hold their inaugural Draft Combine June 21-28 at the USA Baseball complex in North Carolina for the top 100 high school and college prospects. MLB Network will be covering the event.

For the most part, baseball prospects have been somewhat of a mystery. MLB fans have no real indication as to who was coming out of high school (unless you follow high school baseball closely), but now that won't be the case. If there's a switch-hitting 18-year-old shortstop peaking just before the draft, chances are that he'll be at June's combine.

MLB Network is already planning on having Harold Reynolds, Dan Plesac, Greg Amsinger, Bill Ripken, and Dan O'Dowd cover the event, which makes it feel important. Not that MLB needs to become the NFL, but it will be beneficial to make baseball more appealing, at least early, rather than the total dud it's been in years past.

After all, nothing's more frustrating than witnessing a top 10 MLB draft pick receiving absolutely zero face time until years down the road when he makes the big league team. It's time for baseball to do a better job at promoting their game and it appears they're at least trying to. Bravo.
