Marcus Stroman Is Still Bitter The Yankees Didn't Want Him
Right-handed pitcher Marcus Stroman was asked this morning how excited he was to pitch for the Mets since he's from Queens. His reply went into left field about the Yankees, and it reeks of bitterness:
"Beyond excited, you know what I mean? A lot of false media reports when I got traded over that I wanted to pitch for the Yankees. Completely false," Stroman said with a smile. "I was beyond excited to be traded to the Mets, to be honest with you. I have way more Mets fans in my family than Yankee fans."
First and foremost, the New York Yankees clearly didn't want Marcus Stroman on their roster as much as the Mets did. If Yankees GM Brian Cashman wanted him, then he would have matched or exceeded any offer the Mets made. That wasn't the case, and anyone who pays attention to Marcus Stroman knows that he has a chip on his shoulder.
Fake story
In this case, he can't stop talking about the Yankees because he needs to create this narrative to build his brand. And nothing sells quite like a feud or partnership with baseball's most covered franchise. So if the Yankees didn't want a partnership, then Stroman had no other choice but to be public enemy No. 1 in the Bronx.
Secondly, Stroman is selling t-shirts on his website that literally read, "Chip on my shoulder," so doesn't a feud like this fit the mold of his brand? Pretend the Yankees doubted you and led you to the franchise you really wanted to pitch for, and then got the last laugh in the postseason?
He's setting the stage to be a Mets fan favorite by putting on a front that he wanted the Mets over the Yankees, but really he just sounds like a bitter ex who made it as a visitor to the wedding. New York Yankees fans and players have spent no time discussing Stroman, so why do the Yankees come out his mouth any chance he gets? I think you guys know the answer.
Take it easy, Marcus. The Mets want you on the mound, and nothing about your journey in Queens should mention the Yankees. Anytime it does, you come across like a drama queen.
