Justin Turner Celebrates With Dodgers After Testing Positive for COVID
Justin Turner, the third baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was pulled during the eighth inning of Game 6 of the World Series Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19. The Dodgers won the game 3-1 to earn their first World Series championship in over thirty years, and Turner celebrated with teammates on the field after they completed their victory. This will surely be a major story today.
On the FOX Sports postgame show, Ken Rosenthal reported on what happened:
"My understanding from talking to various people is that he was told -- or asked -- not to go on the field," Rosenthal said. "He insisted upon it. The Dodgers insisted upon it. And that is why was out there. And at one point, he did have his mask off. He was mostly masked, but there was one point in the picture where he did have it off."
After the report, Rosenthal clarified the timeline of Turner's positive tests:
Dodgers president Andrew Friedman said the team was remaining in Arlington for further testing:
Turner tweeted that he is asymptomatic:
What would have happened if the Rays had forced Game 7? We may never truly know the answer, but it's worth considering.
