Is Carlos Correa Already Laying The Groundwork To Leave The Astros?

Carlos Correa has been the face of the hated Houston Astros, but now his eyes may be aimed at the exit doors.

The two-time All-Star -- at least from this report from The Athletic -- is gone come this offseason. And this news shouldn't surprise anyone in baseball, as the Astros organization has proven they can win no matter who they lose.

Not that the players aren't important, because they are -- but shall I remind everyone who they've lost the past couple years?

Lose Gerrit Cole to the rival Yankees, Justin Verlander to Tommy John surgery, George Springer to the Blue Jays, to name a few, and they get to the ALCS and sit in first place up top the AL West as we speak?

And Correa wasn't even his usual self during the first half of of 2021. He hit sub .220 until around July, and it somehow still didn't matter. Third baseman Alex Bregman has missed most of the season with a quad injury, yet here the team is, surging ahead of an overall healthy Oakland Athletics team.

Management knows they're the New England Patriots of baseball. Players are important, but others to do the job when it's time to get paid.

The soon to be 27-year-old Correa is expected to land a deal somewhere in the ballpark of eight or nine years for roughly $250 million. That's a price tag the Astros will probably pass on, and still succeed regardless. It's weird that they do business this way, but somehow it works. Carlos Correa is up for grabs come November. I have a good feeling he won't be a Dodger...
