Indians OF/DH Franmil Reyes To Sit 5-6 Weeks With An Internal Oblique Strain

The Cleveland Indians are hitting a putrid .214 in Major League Baseball entering play Sunday, which is 28th in the Majors.

The news they got Sunday shouldn't help matters much.

Slugger Franmil Reyes will sit for the next 1-2 months with what the team is disclosing as an internal oblique strain.

As soon as the Indians took the field Sunday at home against the Twins, the news of the injury to Reyes broke. The team placed Reyes, who was hitting .257 this year with 11 homers and 29 runs batted in, on the IL.

Last year in a short season, he still managed to hit nine homers and 34 RBI, and many felt that the 25-year-old would have even more impressive power numbers this season.

Keeping the dates in mind, five weeks would put Reyes back with the team around June 24th, 25th, as the Indians are in Minnesota to take on the Twins at Target Field.

Having to sit for an extra week to make it six weeks wouldn't allow Reyes to be back with the team until the week of June 28th, a week in which the Tribe will be at home to host the Detroit Tigers.

Either way, missing Reyes is a blow to a club that is 28th in all of baseball and badly needs to get on track and start hitting with more consistency.
