If You Build It, He Will Buy It: Frank Thomas Now Owns Field Of Dreams Site

The next time he wants to have a catch, Ray Kinsella may first have to consult with The Big Hurt. MLB Hall of Famer Frank Thomas and real estate developer Rick Heidner have purchased Major League Baseball's Field Of Dreams site, inspired by the movie of the same name, for an undisclosed amount of money.

Thomas, 53, intends to make improvements to the Dyersville, Iowa stadium to entice Major League Baseball to return to the ballpark on an annual basis, if not more frequently.

“We want to lead future development and expand to make this a unique baseball experience,” Thomas told reports. “... There is enormous potential to expand here. This is a win-win for everyone.”

In early August, the White Sox and Yankees played a regular season game at the Dyersville Field of Dreams site to rave reviews. The first ever MLB game played in the state of Iowa generated Fox Sports' highest ratings for a regular season game since 2005. Thomas would like to see the ballpark continue to host at least one MLB game per season.

“I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, but yes, in the future, we would love to have permanent stands and make this a destination for MLB every season,” he told the Telegraph Herald.

Thomas probably doesn't need to worry. Major League Baseball has already scheduled a return trip to Iowa for next August, when the Cubs and Reds will play ball amongst the cornstalks.

Thomas' investment proves that if you build it, they will come -- with check in hand.
