Brewers Closer Devin Williams Breaks Hand Punching Wall

In today's baseball news of what not to do, Brewers closer Devin Williams punched a wall last night and sustained a fracture in his pitching hand. The injury will likely require surgery which ends the right hander's season.

He reportedly got drunk and then upset about something that'll likely remain private that he squared up with a wall. Talk about changing the complexion of the National League playoff race. This sucks.

"If I could take it back, I would," Williams said in his brief talk with the media this morning.

We have so many questions. The Milwaukee Brewers clinched the NL Central and a player gets so drunk and angry he picks a fight with an immovable object? And it's not like Devin Williams is some scrub that'll barely scratch the playoff roster -- this is a key contributor to that bullpen as the Brewers look to take down either the Dodgers or Giants in a heavy weight matchup down the road.

This incident is more so an unintended consequence of players getting plastered in celebration of an accomplishment. There were always risks, and now we're witnessing the worst case scenario. Just nothing you can do when a grown man makes a mistake that disqualifies him from the most important part of the season.

I'd expect super-reliever Josh Hader to continue as the bridge out the pen to throw multiple innings, meanwhile manager Craig Council will look elsewhere to finish out games in Williams' place. What a disaster for the Brewers...
