Boone Announces Domingo German As Final Starter In Yankees' Pitching Rotation

It took awhile, but the New York Yankees have finally figured out who will be the final starter in their rotation. On Sunday, manager Aaron Boone announced righty Domingo German will get the first crack at the job.

Boone stated that German will start the third game of the regular season, which is slated for Sunday, April 4th at home against the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York's four-man rotation currently looks like this: Gerritt Cole, Corey Kluber, German, and then rounding out the four is Jordan Montgomery,

German's spot in the rotation became all but cemented on Friday after the team sent fellow pitcher Deivi Garcia to Triple-A.

The league suspended German for the 2020 season for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy.

He's been very good this spring for New York coming off the suspension. He has not allowed a run thus far in nine innings and has struck out 13 batters.

"The lack of rust has been the most pleasantly surprising thing for me," Boone said via MLB.com.

Boone has been a big fan of German, but after the suspension last season, he knows the young pitcher still has something to prove at the Major League level.

"I think the message to him that I tried to convey was 'stay ready,'" Boone said.

"We're going to need you, you're going to be a big part of this, chances are. And make sure you're handling your business down there as putting yourself in line to be the guy we go to because there's probably going to be a time when in the month of April where may go to a sixth starter at some point here or there."
