Bob Melvin Signs Three-Year Deal To Leave Oakland And Manage The San Diego Padres

Bob Melvin has signed a three-year deal to leave the Oakland Athletics to become the manager of the San Diego Padres, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. A huge get for the Padres who were a massive disappointment this year.

Melvin is bringing a boatload of experience with a 1283-1211managerial record that's been involved in baseball since his rookie season in '85. He's been named manager of the year on three separate occasion and made a pit stop as a New York Yankee in his playing days, so he has an understanding of coaching with pressure.

Bob Melvin also has a grip of the division with experience managing in division with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2005-2009. No secret that the Dodgers have a plethora of impending free agents making the time to win now for Fernando Tatis Jr. and the Padres. An aggressive move at manager when the division rival Dodgers are expecting to take steps back due to payroll constraints.
