Blue Jays Add OF Michael Brantley With A Three-Year Deal

Mere hours after adding George Springer to their outfield with a massive $150 million dollar deal, the Jays outfield revamping continued Wednesday with the addition of veteran outfielder Michael Brantley.

The 33-year-old Brantley played in 46 of 60 regular season games last season for the Houston Astros, hitting .300 with five homers and 22 runs batted in.

Adding Brantley gives the Jays another boost to their outfield. In 2019 with the Astros Brantley hit .311 with 22 homers and 90 runs batted in.

Before playing the last two seasons with the Astros, Brantley played 10 seasons with the Cleveland Indians, hitting .295 over those 10 seasons.

In 1,051 games in 10 seasons with the Tribe Brantley was a model of consistency before getting hurt in 2016, limiting him to 11 games.

Mostly playing in right field, Brantley is a four-time All-Star and a one-time Silver Slugger Award winner back in 2014.

Brantley was first drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 7th round of the 2005 MLB June Amateur Draft, and was a "player to be named later" in the deal in 2008 that sent C.C. Sabathia to the Brewers from Cleveland.

The Jays not only have now added Brantley but they also opened their checkbook wide on Tuesday night, agreeing to a six-year deal with Springer, also coming over from the Astros, for $150 million.

He and Brantley both should be in the outfield for the Jays come opening day 2021.
