Astros Ready For Jeers In Return To Yankee Stadium
The Astros will be making their first trip to Yankee Stadium since the 2017 sign-stealing scandal tonight at 4 pm Pacific. That Houston squad has only five players left (most notably Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, and Alex Bregman), yet somehow I don't think Yankees fans care.
They'll be booed accordingly. And if anything, they're lucky Yankee Stadium still operates at limited capacity.
"As far as I'm concerned, it should be over with," Astros manager Dusty Baker said to USA Today Sports. "There are only five guys that are still on this team (from 2017). So are people booing the players? Are they booing the organization? Or are they booing the uniform?"
Well, Dusty, it's a bit of both. When you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on tickets and energy on attending games, you want to know everything is fair, that your team actually has a chance to win. That's what the Astros organization took from many baseball fans and, even more importantly, the players.
All the "booing fans" know is that something should've been done by commissioner Rob Manfred -- but he sat back and did nothing. For those who don't know: Manfred delivered immunity to the entire Astros organization, except for manager A.J. Hinch, if they talked. So obviously, they talked openly about their guilt and were on the field Opening Day unscathed, outside of losing a couple draft picks.
So just wear the boos until we say we're good
Dusty Baker just needs to manage games and leave the comments to us. We know he may have had nothing to do with the matter, but he's a grown man who should have a solid grip on common sense.
Baseball fans are rightfully pissed off, and lucky for us, the Astros have more angry fans giving them at least some grief for their actions in 2017.
The Houston Astros have shown they can win without cheating, and overall that was a good look. They should take solace that they have proven their worth and embrace the fact that the entire organization was classless four years ago.
