Randy Quaid 'Seriously Considering' Joining Race for California Governor
Randy Quaid said he is "seriously considering" joining the race for governor of California.
On Tuesday, National Lampoon actor Randy Quaid tweeted he's "seriously considering running for governor" and cited prosecutorial corruption in Santa Barbara as the primary reason.
Politico reports Santa Barbra is where he and his wife twice faced criminal charges related to a 2009 unpaid hotel bill and a 2010 guest house stay.
Fox News reports Quaid has not officially launched a campaign, and his reps did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment.
Reality star Caitlyn Jenner previously announced her own candidacy for the position, and as of Monday, the effort to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom surpassed the necessary number of signatures to land on the ballot later this year.
“If you want to be famous for being famous, there’s no better way to do it than to run for governor of California — even if you have no chance of winning,” said veteran California PR guru Larry Kamer, per Politico. “It’s kind of the political equivalent of running naked down the street.”
Kamer told Politico the current social media culture gives enterprising Californians an easy way to amplify their voice and build a following, should they join the fray.
