Omicron Is Trending Toward Becoming Less Fatal Than The Seasonal Flu, According To Study
Additional data released on the Omicron variant showcased the COVID strain’s lessened threat, now trending toward being tamer than the seasonal flu.
A new report by the Daily Mail cited that a combination of the diluted variant’s effects and boosted protection offered by the vaccines is placing the infection-fatality rate (IFR) for Omicron between .25 and .1 percent — which equates to the seasonal flu’s mark.
What sets Omicron on a trajectory toward being less threatening than the flu is a gradually decreasing IFR based on its comparison to Delta.
“If Omicron is 99 percent less lethal than Delta, it suggests the current IFR could be as low as 0.0025 percent,“ notes the study.
The CDC and an increasing number of individuals in the medical community are pointing to COVID’s likely segue out of society with every mutation’s mitigated effect — indicating it’s time to ditch masks and vaxx restrictions.
“… he emergence of the highly-mutated Omicron variant appears to have sped the process up,” the report shares.
Omicron stint within the pandemic has been encouraging for people tracking the data, while the White House entertains a ruse of bringing back restrictions over increased cases without acknowledging falling hospitalization rates.
“We should be asking whether we are justified in having any measures we would not bring for a bad flu season,” a former government adviser alerted the Daily Mail.
