Mike Golic Ends Final Day At ESPN With One Last Note

Mike Golic's work inside ESPN's Bristol, Connecticut offices came to an end Tuesday. His contract with the Worldwide Leader will officially run out after he calls two more bowl games, but his days in the office are now done. Golic took to Twitter to express his feelings as he crosses another bridge with a company he's worked for since 1998, when he served as a college football analyst.

That same year, Golic and Mike Greenberg debuted "Mike and Mike in the Morning" on ESPN 1000 in Chicago. The rest is radio history.

"Weird day this Dec. 22nd," Golic, 58, wrote Tuesday night on Twitter. "While I still have Alamo bowl and Fiesta bowl on my ESPN schedule, I was at ESPN today for the last time," Golic wrote. "There have been many changes since it became my work home in Oct. of 1998. Some good, some not so good.

"I’ve made many friends through the years and have had many great experiences, but what seemed most fitting to me was the last person I saw when I left, it was my son Mike, and while he and Chiney are stars on the rise, I can honestly say my most enjoyable years were sharing a mic with him and sharing my family with all of You!!! To those who listened and watched for so many years, THANK YOU, I’m not done, this just closes a chapter, I look forward to what’s next. This picture feels like the only one I want to leave you with."

Golic's final official assignment for ESPN will come January 2 when he calls the Fiesta Bowl matchup between Oregon and Iowa State. It doesn't appear this will be the last you'll hear of Golic in sports. He said in August that he has no plans to retire.
