Jeremy Lin Won't Name Person Who Called Him 'Coronavirus'

Jeremy Lin will not be naming the person who called him "coronavirus" while he was playing basketball.

The former NBA guard that now plays for the G League's Santa Cruz Warriors spoke out initially on Thursday via social media, and tweeted Saturday he's "not naming or shaming anyone."

"I know this will disappoint some of you but I'm not naming or shaming anyone," Lin tweeted Saturday. "What good does it do in this situation for someone to be torn down? It doesn't make my community safer or solve any of our long-term problems with racism."

ESPN reports the G League is investigating the claim made by Lin.

Lin didn't specify in the statement when it occured, and it is unclear if it was during a game in the G League bubble in Orlando, Florida, where Lin currently is playing, ESPN reports.

In a Thursday Instagram post, he detailed his thoughts on the racism he believes the Asian American community continues to deal with and offered examples of his own experiences.

“Being an Asian American doesn’t mean we don’t experience poverty and racism,” he said on Thursday. “Being a 9 year NBA veteran doesn’t protect me from being called ‘coronavirus’ on the court. Being a man of faith doesn’t mean I don’t fight for justice, for myself and for others.”

Lin became a household name in 2012 when he emerged as the breakout star of the New York Knicks, dubbed "Linsanity."

He became the first Asian American to win an NBA title while playing for the Toronto Raptors in 2019.
