Clay, Others Dump On Geraldo During Panel Talk On COVID, Media
OutKick founder Clay Travis appeared on Fox News' Hannity with a panel that also included longtime media man Geraldo Rivera and former White House press secretary Ari Fleisher. And things got a little heated.
OK, considerably heated, between Clay, the rest of the panel, and not surprisingly, Geraldo.
Before we go any further, I should add the following disclaimer: Clay agreed to hire me at OutKick more than a year ago, and Geraldo recently had me on his radio show to talk about the NBA. While Geraldo doesn't know sports (he referred to Russell Westbrook as "Russell Westerbrook" during our segment), he was incredibly nice and called me a "great reporter." So he actually got two things wrong.
Either way, Geraldo will always has a soft spot in my heart.
OK, on to the verbal bout, in which Clay and others delivered a few blows to Geraldo on all sides. The panel had been discussing the media mob's obsession with censoring, canceling and controlling, particularly Joe Rogan, when the subject turned to Whoopi Goldberg and her bizarre take on the Holocaust and the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Whoopi Goldberg was wrong. She deservedly got called out for being wrong," Clay said. "But in the process, we learned more as a nation by having that discussion. I don't believe she should be canceled.
"Geraldo's point about Republicans and Democrats ... Democrats, when it comes to COVID, are overwhelmingly terrified, no matter their age, despite what the data reflects. They're the ones who are insisting that kids wear masks in school, even though The Atlantic saying there's zero evidence of it. Even the New York Times is running editorials saying that kids don't need to be in masks.
"A lot of this is about risk tolerance. ... If you are in your 20s and 30s, your danger from COVID is much lower than if you are in your 80s."
Geraldo couldn't take it anymore and cut Clay off.
"I disagree," Geraldo said repeatedly, before stumbling through his response. "There should not be two standards for information about medical disease. If President Trump had joined early on, as he later did, with President Biden, and together they had presented a united front ..."
That's about as far as Geraldo got before Clay, Fleischer and Sean Hannity couldn't resist interrupting.
"You want to talk about misinformation? It was Joe Biden, Anthony Fauci, the CDC (that said), 'Take the vaccine and you'll never get COVID,'" Hannity said. "They have been the biggest purveyors of misinformation of anybody during this pandemic."
To which Clay gave a loud and resounding "Yes!"
