Aldon Smith Wanted In Connection To Physical Altercation
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Aldon Smith is wanted for second degree battery in connection with an incident at the French Press Coffee House in Chalmette, Louisiana, Yahoo Sports confirmed with the local District Attorney.
" indicated that the victim in the incident was briefly rendered unconscious and spent a short time at a local hospital, but has been discharged," the article states.
Yahoo Sports does not list Smith's role in the incident.
The Seahawks signed Smith to a one-year deal just two days before the alleged incident occurred, Yahoo Sports reports. A team spokesperson said in a statement that they are aware of Smith's situation.
“We are aware of the reports regarding Aldon Smith,” the Seahawks said a statement on Monday. “Aldon notified us and we are gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”
Smith was the seventh overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and played for the San Francisco 49ers for the first four years of his career.
Yahoo Sports reports that his time in San Francisco and beyond was marked by "a variety of legal issues, including arrests for suspicion of DUI, that led to multiple suspensions," the article reads.
Following a season with the Raiders, Smith sat out the entire 2016 and 2017 seasons after failing to win reinstatement from a suspension related to a hit-and-run incident.
Smith did not play in the 2018 or 2019 seasons and returned to the Cowboys in 2020 on a one-year deal. Last season, the 31-year-old accounted for 31 solo tackles, 17 assists and five sacks. He's tallied 228 tackles in his NFL career.
