2022 Grammy Award Show Postponed Indefinitely Due To COVID Cases

Fans of modern music, get ready to be a Lil' Disappointed.

The Recording Academy is rescheduling the 2022 Grammy Award show due to "the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant," as reported by Pitchfork.

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th annual Grammy Awards show," announced the Academy via press release on Wednesday.

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on Jan. 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon."

Other organizations, namely sporting leagues, have adopted a different approach to increased cases based on what data suggests regarding Omicron. The NBA and NFL have openly supported shorter isolation windows for newly infected players — abiding by the CDC's recommendation regarding the variant.

A report by the New York Times released on Dec. 31 detailed that illness incited by the tamed variant has not affected a host's lungs at the same capacity as the original and Delta strains. The outlet followed up with a report on Wednesday claiming hospitalizations may be up as a result of cases yet ICU visits are not rising according to the trend.

The Grammy event was scheduled to take place at the formerly named Staples Center in Los Angeles, now known as Crypto.com Arena — which was surprisingly not the crux of the cancelation.

As a way to protect themselves from LA's flaky COVID regulations, the NFL is arranging a backup venue to host the Super Bowl in February — should SoFi Stadium in Inglewood experience an issue related to Omicron.
