Kentucky Derby Fends Off Leftist Attack, Will Play Traditional Song
"My Old Kentucky Home," written by Stephen Collins Foster, has been played before the Kentucky Derby every year since 1921, without a trace of whining or complaining ... but you can see where this is going.
Apparently, the left wants the song axed because it's said to use controversial words toward black people. The Kentucky Derby decided it will play the song anyway.
Good for Kentucky Derby.
Hilariously, Pastor Timothy Findley of Kingdom Life Center took a break from the gospel of Christ and decided to go part-time in stupidity with this statement following the murder of Breonna Taylor and how that should lead to the removal of the song:
"If we're going to do the right thing, if we're going to do the thing that moves our community forward, moves our city forward, and shows that we have sensitivity to what has happened in the past and a mind to move forward in the future, the song needs to be removed. I don't even understand why this is such a difficult thing," he told WLKY-TV.
That's really all it is, huh? One side of the political spectrum obsessed with gestures and cancellations that give off an impression of caring? Why worry about long-term poverty, incarcerations rates, or inner-city murders when you can pander over a song no one cares about?
Our minority communities should demand better, but for some reason, they don't. As a black man, I can speak to this truth: It's frowned upon to care about actual problems over nonsense like this.
This is no different from removing the tomahawk chop from Braves' games or 'Redskins' from the NFL
Nothing more than political theatre. It's like wearing a mask the way fully-vaccinated President Joe Biden did. The left wants to cancel or, at the very least, alter every thought in America. God forbid you do or like something that makes a select few uncomfortable -- YOU need to change or we'll remove the MLB All-Star Game or march with signs. It's a complete clown show.
If you don't like the song at the Kentucky Derby, then don't go. It's that simple. Chances are, less than 1 percent of attendees give a damn if the song was about slavery, the holocaust, or their last meal. We're actually going to spend time addressing every joke or team name that a select group of ding-a-lings complain about? It's just a song.
It's officially time for all major sports commissioners to take a stand and tell the easily offended to pound sand. Kick rock. Beat it. Not liking something because you watched a four-minute YouTube video made by some distraught loser doesn't qualify you to promote change in this country.
America needs to figure it out, and the Kentucky Derby taking a stand here is a solid start.
