Dan Patrick On Why Connor McDavid Needs To Seize His Moment And How There Won't Be Anther Wayne Gretzky

Sportscasting great Dan Patrick joined OutKick's Dan Dakich on the latest episode of Don't @ Me with Dan Dakich and the two talked a little hockey with the Stanley Cup Final underway.

Dakich asked Patrick if the Edmonton Oilers — who are down 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers with the series shifting to Edmonton for Game 3 on Thursday night — will manage to get rid of that goose egg and win a game in this series.

Patrick said that he thought from the jump that the Panthers would win this series, and added that he is waiting for Oilers captain Connor McDavid to turn it on and grab hold of the biggest moment of his career.

"This is Connor McDavid's moment and he's not taking advantage of it. This is where you have that young player; generational talent," Patrick said. "Now you have eyeballs on the sport and that's all you ask for. It's like Gretzky in hockey, Tiger in golf, Caitlin Clark in basketball; you've got a chance you've got an audience, take advantage of that, now let me see what you can do. "

Patrick couldn't be more right.

McDavid is unquestionably one of, if not the biggest stars in the NHL. However, while he leads the postseason with 32 points, he only has one assist in the Cup Final which came on the Oilers' only goal of the series so far.

Your best players have to be your best players, and the Oilers need more from a few of their top dogs, including their captain.

McDavid has always been compared to fellow Oilers great Wayne Gretzky, which, as Patrick pointed out is kind of shame, because there's never going to be another Wayne Gretzky.

"That's been the unfortunate part because as much as we want to say that Connor McDavid is the next Gretzky — there is no next Gretzky — but this is your stage, now do something on it."

McDavid and the Oilers are now going to need to do something on the Stanley Cup stage, otherwise, they'll find themselves in a virtually impossible to climb out of a 3-0 hole if things don't go their way in Game 3.
