GOP Operatives Wonder if Donald Trump Could Drop Out Amid Alarming Poll Numbers

Before Cam Newton became a Patriot, most of Sunday was spent online trying to figure out what to make of a Fox Business report on President Donald Trump. Charles Gasparino reported that GOP operatives for the first time raised the possibility that Trump could drop out if his poll numbers don't rebound.

"BREAKING— (thread)GOP operatives are for the first time raising the possibility that @realDonaldTrump could drop out of the race if his poll numbers don’t rebound. Over the weekend I spoke to a sample of major players; one described Trump's current psyche as 'fragile,'" Gasparino tweeted. "I'm not convinced yet; he’s got time and he’s running against an opponent who is literally hiding in his basement. Plus the public isn’t focusing yet on just how left wing @JoeBiden has become, so much so, he can bring himself to denounce rioting."

Gasparino continued: "That said the speculation indicates how tense GOP operatives are about Trump losing and the party losing the senate and having their entire agenda abolished in a leftist wave election. Again lots of time and Trump has endured a horrible couple of months but that’s the snap shop."

Later in the day, a report on Fox News, with Gasparino, Andrew O'Reilly, and Lydia Moynihan, stated that a GOP operative told the network “It’s too early, but if the polls continue to worsen, you can see a scenario where he drops out." “I’ve heard the talk but I doubt it’s true,” another said. “My bet is, he drops if he believes there’s no way to win.”

Trump's poll numbers are rapidly declining. A recent Fox News poll had Trump trailing Joe Biden by 12 points. All of the latest Real Clear Politics polls show large leads for Biden, as well.

We know Trump doesn't poll well. And while the gap is alarming to his supporters, there's still a long way to go until November. A debate hasn't even taken place yet.
