The Masters Scores From November Versus Now Are Insane

Only five months have passed since the last Masters. The prestigious golf tournament was moved from April to November last year, and now in April 2021, the competitors are already back on the links with the first round complete.

They may have played only one round so far, but we can already tell it's going to be a different experience this time. Comparing the combined scores from every player through one round in 2020 to those now is staggering.

KDKA TV sports director Bob Pompeani in Pittsburgh was the one to point it out on Twitter. The first round combined score for all players back in November was an impressive -54. The opening round score yesterday? Yeah, a whopping +222.

That is absurd, but with top golfers struggling, maybe it shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

Dustin Johnson (+2), Brooks Koepka (+2), Bryson DeChambeau (+4) and Rory McIlroy (+4) all struggled mightily dealing with the conditions now compared to what was going on back in November.

"The conditions are definitely different," said Johnson after his round, via CBS Sports. "Playing definitely a lot tougher just because, when the greens are firm and fast here, the golf course plays difficult. Then you add the wind in today, it made it play really difficult, I thought."

Those struggling stars left an opening for Justin Rose to take a substantial lead (-7) through the first round, but there is still a lot of golf left to be played. Let's see what happens in Round 2.
