Bryson DeChambeau Eyeing Up His Chance To Drive The Green On A Par 5

The sixth hole at Bay Hill is 590 yards, but Bryson DeChambeau says he's going to try to drive the green. For that to happen, Bryson would need to cut the corner of a lake, which would require a 340-yard carry to clear, but he apparently isn't worried about the risk.

It seems like Bryson DeChambeau is more concerned about impressing the cart girls than he is about winning. Sure, he cares about winning in general, but why is he concerned with driving the green in two like he's a baseball player just picking up golf?

"If I play this year, I will definitely do it," Dechambeau said to golf.com. "No. 6 at Bay Hill is one of those I've been eyeing. I think I can do some pretty cool things on it."

Defending champion at Bay Hill Tyrell Hatton had this to say about DeChambeau's comments:

"It would be some effort," Hatton said with a smirk. "I know that's not anywhere near my locker. If he can do it and he pulls it off in a tournament...fair play to him."

"There's really no bailout. It would take a very brave man to do it, and it would be interesting to see if he can pull it off," Hatton said.

Hatton calls him brave, but maybe he's just being stupid?

What is Bryson DeChambeau's goal?

Like Hatton said, DeChambeau attempting this during a tournament would be ballsy--it would also be stupid though. The goal should be to win, which is why no one else tries to do things like this.

All the bashing aside, Bryson DeChambeau's attempt to get macho is great for golf. It's eventually going to force golf officials to adjust the sport so that players can't show up looking like linebackers and out drive great players to tour victories. Golf is the one sport that's actually trying to maintain its core audience.

We're getting to the point where driving the green on a par 5 seems to be more important than winning the event itself. It's a weird generation we live in, but it's a mindset that we should have seen coming.
