WWE WrestleMania Could Be Heading to London

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is currently in talks with the city of London to host an upcoming WrestleMania pay-per view in what would be a massive move for the wrestling promotion.

On Thursday, WWE executives Triple H and Nick Khan were in London meeting with Mayor Sadiq Khan to negotiate what would be a historic deal moving the WWE's longest-running and biggest pay-per-view event outside the United States for the first time. Not only does WrestleMania continue to break stadium records - with this past year's event bringing in 145,000+ fans to Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Stadium over two nights, but it also continues to bring in humongous digital views as well. WWE reported that the latest WrestleMania had over 67 million views on its YouTube Channel in just 24 hours.

WrestleMania is essentially the WWE's Super Bowl, which, funny enough, the NFL has also been having live games being played in London as that league also expands internationally.

WWE SHOWING INTEREST IN A LONDON WRESTLEMANIA EVENT

"Why London? Some of our greatest and best fans are here in London. I’ve been coming here for 30 years. They’re always incredible. We have a massive following here, but I think it also opens up to a lot of the rest of the world given how many people travel in every single year for events we do all over the globe," Triple H told the UK's The Independent.

'We're all focused on the same goal, which is WrestleMania coming here. But we'll see where it goes," the former wrestler-turned WWE CCO later told UK Mail Sport after the group's meeting.

London Mayor Khan, meanwhile, has been a huge proponent of having the WWE do events in the city and country. During his reelection campaign, he tweeted out that he wanted to have WrestleMania hosted in London, to which Triple H responded with "Let's talk." Just three months later, here we are with both sides wanting to make this happen if possible.

WHAT'S THIS MEAN FOR AMERICAN WWE FANS?

There's no doubt that many Americans will be very disappointed and bummed if WrestleMania heads overseas. This event brings people from all over the country and globe TO America for it. As everyone knows, it's a heck of a lot easier to road trip or fly to a city in America than it is to fly overseas - at least for the majority of fans.

However, as we've seen with the WWE's continuance of doing deals and events with Saudi Arabia - including a recently negotiated annual pay-per-view despite criticisms of dealing with the women-oppressing Kingdom, the wrestling promotion is going to do what it can to maximize profits. The best way to do so is what Netflix, the NFL and other large corporations and entities are doing - head overseas and expand media rights deals and gain new fan bases.
