Vivek Ramaswamy Calls Out Dove For Hypocritical Super Bowl Commercial
Vivek Ramaswamy put Dove on blast after watching the beauty products company run an advertisement during Super Bowl LVIII.
During the NFL title game, Dove ran an ad that, on the surface, looked to be pretty wholesome. It showed a montage of young girls playing sports, and ended with a rather uplifting call to action. In fact, USA Today ranked it as the sixth-best commercial out of all 59 ads during the Super Bowl broadcast.
At first, you’d see no reason to criticize the content of the commercial. But Ramaswamy quickly pointed out that Dove’s past views on women’s sports were far different from what we saw on Super Bowl Sunday.
After quoting a tweet from NBC’s Jimmy Fallon, Ramaswamy pointed out that Dove’s attempt to support women’s sports was rather hypocritical.
Ramaswamy is referring to an incident in 2021 when Dove took to Twitter (now X) to support transgender weightlifter Laura Hubbard’s participation in the Summer Olympics. Because, you know, Dove is all about supporting women in sports - even if they really aren’t women.
Maybe this year’s Super Bowl ad was Dove’s way of reversing course with their stance on this issue. After all, they’ve seen plenty of evidence in the ensuing years that allowing men to compete in women’s sports is (shocker!) not that great of an idea. After all, that can be more discouraging to women than the body image issues they may struggle with.
Or maybe, as Ramaswamy pointed out, this is just another example of a corporate giant being thoroughly confused and hypocritical about what their values are. Based on how most big businesses operate, that wouldn’t be all that surprising.
