Viral Suspended Driver Who Zoomed Into Court Shouldn't Have Lost License In First Place After Clerical Screwup

Just days after going viral for Zooming into a court hearing regarding a traffic violation while driving his car under a suspended license, Corey Harris has been vindicated.

Harris immediately found himself at the receiving end of all the jokes this past week for what many believed was another example of criminals not being the brightest people out there. Even Michigan Judge Cedric Simpson was flabbergasted when he saw Harris driving his car while seemingly not being legally allowed. Judge Simpson immediately ordered Harris to turn himself into police.

He would end up spending two days in jail despite not doing anything wrong.

However, it turns out that Harris was in the right and our justice system, with a mix of human error, actually let him down!

HARRIS'S DRIVER'S LICENSE WAS THOUGHT TO BE REINSTATED IN JANUARY 2022

Due to a clerical error, Harris's payment regarding his suspended license was never documented, and thus his record was never updated - something that he had no idea about. Harris has legally been able to drive since his suspension was rescinded in January 2022.

"Always double-check behind these workers because they will say that they will do something, and they don’t do it," the viral driver told WXYZ-TV.

He says that he didn't think twice about admitting to the judge that he was driving to the doctor's office when asked if he was using his vehicle, because, as far as he knew, he wasn't doing anything wrong! "What was I thinking? I was thinking about getting my wife medical help," he told the outlet.

Harris's Zoom call became so popular that it actually became a meme after a painter drew up a rendition of him driving his car last week.

JUSTICE SYSTEM FAILED HARRIS

It wasn't the only time the legal system let Harris down. Not only did the clerical error land him an unnecessary jail stint once he turned himself in last week, but his public defender - who was also on the Zoom video during the whole ordeal, didn't catch the error despite this going on for months.

Now Harris says that he's worried his reputation is tarnished. "With the type of ties that I have with the church and the community, it’s very embarrassing," he continued.

Corey shouldn't dwell too much on it - he literally beat the system and proved how much of a joke it can be at times - something that many Donald Trump supporters felt last week after the former President's conviction on all 34 counts regarding falsifying business records.

It's unclear if Harris has any legal recourse or the ability to sue.
