Twitter Attacks Chris Pratt Over Alleged Trump Support
Filmmaker Amy Berg played her own version of the popular "One Has To Go" game Saturday, asking Twitter users to eliminate one Hollywood Chris: Chris Pratt, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine, or Chris Evans.
Twitter immediately took groupthink to new heights, made the game political, and thus ruined the fun.
Users overwhelmingly voted to omit Chris Pratt. Why? Pratt is an alleged Trump supporter, which is enough to place him atop the Twitter target list.
Unlike many Hollywood actors, Pratt hasn't endorsed a presidential candidate, but Twitter users translate no endorsements into a de facto endorsement of Trump.
Other commenters tied him to President Trump after Ellen Page claimed that his church is anti-LGBTQ. Pratt denied it, but few listened. They were already on Page's side.
On Twitter, it doesn't matter that Pratt is far more bearable than the other Chris options. His alleged political views have made him unacceptable.
However, there have been some Hollywood stars, people who actually know Pratt, who have come to his defense and pushed back against the anti-Pratt Twitter campaign:
"I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life," Mark Ruffalo tweets. "He is just not overtly political as a rule. This is a distraction. Let's keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now."
Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Zoe Saldana, another real-life person, agreed:
"No matter how hard it gets, stick your chest out, keep your head up and handle it."
Robert Downey Jr., too:
"Delete your social media accounts, sit with your OWN defects of #character, work on THEM, then celebrate your humanness."
All this because Pratt may — we don't know for sure — vote for Donald Trump.
Just more insufferable behavior from the Twitter mob.
