Trump Tells Clay Travis That Kamala Harris Would Be An 'Easier' Opponent To Beat Than Biden
If Joe Biden drops out of the race before the Democratic National Convention in August, Kamala Harris will almost certainly be the one to replace him atop the ticket.
Harris is the only candidate who could inherit Biden's $250 million war chest, per campaign financing laws. The party would also struggle to justify bypassing a woman of color in favor of a white candidate.
Donald Trump appeared on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show on Friday to discuss the possibility of facing Harris, not Biden.
"I think in many ways [Harris] might be easier than [Biden]," Trump told the hosts. "Perhaps I'm wrong, but I've been pretty good at this stuff over the years. I think in many ways she might be easier than him."
"I don't know if he will get out," Trump continued. "He is proud. I don't know if he should be proud. He has destroyed this country. He has been the worst president in the history of our country.
The conversation about Harris replacing Biden begins at the 6:20 mark below:
Saying Harris is a weaker candidate than Biden would not have been a profound statement three months ago. Harris is a notoriously unpopular politician. She is a life-long DEI hire. Harris is only the vice president because the party insisted that Biden choose a black woman. She is hardly a promising presidential nominee.
Still, Biden's debate performance was so pathetic that Trump might be wrong in believing Harris and her cackle would be an easier foe.
I argued on the Michele Tafoya Podcast this week that Harris would pose more of a threat to Trump "by default." Think of the debate in sports terms. Fan bases and players often rally behind the interim head coach, no matter their long-term prospects, for simply not being the previous head coach.
Harris' most effective message to Democrat voters: "I am not Joe Biden."
On Friday, NBC News reported that "down-ballot strategists" told the network that Harris would be a more effective nominee because she would increase enthusiasm among young and black voters.
The bar is that low.
Leaked internal polling data from Open Labs also shows Harris polling better than Biden in each traditional battleground state. The betting market agrees. The odds are currently as follows: Trump, -152; Harris, +520; and Biden, +840.
Either way, Trump should enter November as the favorite.
