'True Detective' Makes Smart Decision With Episode Scheduled During Super Bowl

"True Detective: Night Country" fans won't have to wait a full week for the latest episode.

The fourth season of the hit HBO mystery saga is currently airing, and reviews are all over the place. Personally, I think it's the best overall mystery since season one.

Many agree, but there are certainly plenty of critics of the latest episodes. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

New 'True Detective: Night Country" episode dropping early.

What we do know for sure is fans won't have to wait until Sunday for the second to last episode. The Super Bowl is this Sunday, and the last thing any network wants to do is compete with the biggest event of the year in America.

HBO announced that episode five of "Night Country" will go live Friday on MAX. That means fans will get it a full two days early.

If that's not great news, then I don't know what is. What's better than catching some great TV early?

This isn't the first time HBO has done something like this. An episode of "The Last of Us" was also released early in order to not compete with the Super Bowl. It's the smart thing to do. In fact, it's really the only option on the table.

The Super Bowl will draw north of 100 million viewers. Virtually nobody will be focused on much else, including HBO productions. Even if you're not a huge football fan, there will likely be parties to attend.

It's a massive social event that starts for many people hours before the game. Nothing hits like the first beer of Super Bowl Sunday.

Now, "True Detective: Night Country" fans can fire up episode five on Friday night, have a couple beers with popcorn and then spend the weekend focused on one thing and one thing only:

The 49ers battling the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

If you're not already watching "Night Country," then it's a great time to start. I truly enjoyed it, even if not everyone does. For those of you watching, let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com, and let's have ourselves a weekend.
