Tom Brady Teams Up With EA Sports For Hilarious Madden Commercial
Tom Brady was featured in a Madden '22 promotional video after being announced as the video game cover's co-star — alongside Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes — for the first duo feature since Madden '10.
In a duality of old school and new school, the cover highlights Brady and Mahomes as two stars from different generations of football coming together for the game's "MVP" edition.
Another element to the promotional video tweeted by Brady tackles the notion of the "Madden Curse."
The Madden Curse is contextualized as follows: "Since Garrison Hearst broke his ankle in 1998 shortly after starring on the cover of Madden NFL 99, most of the players who starred on the game’s cover have suffered an injury the following season. Of the 22 players who have been selected to grace the cover of Madden games through this season, 16 have had troubling or abruptly-shortened seasons following their cover debut — including several who suffered season-ending injuries shortly after their game hit shelves."
Tom Brady last appeared on the cover in 2018 and escaped the season without a catastrophic injury, becoming an anomaly to the urban legend's story. The video, whose gag we won't spoil, pokes fun at how Brady previously avoided injury, which may come into play for the new year's cover.
In an effort to preserve the health of Brady and co-star Patrick Mahomes, the EA executive, seen in the video, reunites the G.O.A.T. with an old friend — whose effect we're intrigued to see in Brady's 21st season in the NFL.
