Tim Robbins: Anyone Who Denies The Assassination On Pres. Donald Trump Was Real Is In 'Deranged Mindset'

After seeing our share of unhinged left-wing media reactions in the wake of the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, you’d maybe expect some reliable liberal celebrities to offer up some of their own.

Tim Robbins would certainly be a candidate. The guy who played Andy Dufresne in "The Shawshank Redemption" isn’t a radical, but he’s definitely got the lefty credentials, so you never know.

Fortunately, he did the exact opposite.

Many people have put on their dunce caps while tweeting out their thoughts on the assassination attempt. One of the most ridiculous theories that’s circulated on the interwebs is that Trump or people around him staged the whole thing.

But what does this have to do with Robbins? Well, in 1992, he starred in a comedy called "Bob Roberts" (Robbins played the title character), a story about a right-wing senate candidate from Pennsylvania who staged an assassination attempt to sway his election.

Now there are two parallels between the movie and real life here. Both the movie character and Trump are running for office, and they are both Republican.

But that’s where the similarities end.

Some people have claimed that another link between this movie and yesterday’s tragedy is the fact that the assassination attempts were staged.

That is patently absurd, and Robbins called out the idiots who tried say as much on his X account.

"To anyone drawing a parallel between my film Bob Roberts and the attempted assassination of Trump, let’s be clear. What happened yesterday was a real attempt on a presidential candidate’s life. Those that are denying the assassination attempt was real are truly in a deranged mindset."

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK, TIM!

He continued: "A human being was shot yesterday. Another killed. They may not be human beings that you agree with politically but for shame folks. Get over your blind hatred of these people. They are fellow Americans. This collective hatred is killing our souls and consuming whatever is left of our humanity."

The part about blind hatred is key. Yes, Americans have always disagreed about how we should run our country, and in some ways, that’s healthy.

But it’s downright despicable to spew takes that are completely disconnected from reality and rooted in a thorough disgust for the other side. If you start to ignore basic facts about stuff like this, hatred has eaten you for breakfast.

Good on Robbins for bringing some sanity to the situation. Let’s hope we get some more of that - from all Americans - over the next few days.
